How to Make Sushi Cones
To make temaki, you’ll need sushi rice, nori sheets, and your choice of fillings. If you don’t know how to make sushi rice, you can refer to this recipe for Vegan California Rolls where I go in-depth.
You’ll need a half-sheet of nori for each roll.
Today, I’m going to fill my hand rolls with matchstick carrots, cucumber sticks and beautifully ripe avocado slices.
Place a small amount of sushi rice on one corner of the nori and place a few fillings on top. For temaki beginners, I think less is more.
The temaki technique that I find the easiest is to
- hold the nori sheet with fillings on one hand,
- use the other hand to fold it over into a cone shape, then
- roll up!
You can use a little piece of sushi rice to stick the end to the cone. Or just leave the end loose and let the weight of the fillings hold it down.
