Vegan Thanksgiving Project 2011

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

The summer has barely ended, but in Canada, it’s already time to plan Thanksgiving Dinner. It’s my first holiday on a vegan diet and I’m both excited and anxious. But, even Bree Van de Camp didn’t present her holiday dinner without a full rehearsal first! So for you, my dear reader, I will trot out my entire planned menu, share successes and failures, and, perhaps, leave you with some inspiration for your own holiday feast.

Vegan Thanksgiving Project 2011
Below, I’ve listed all the things I intend to make for Thanksgiving dinner. Also note that most of these items are soy-free. Most of these items have a link to their recipe, and if not, they will soon!

Appetizers
Garlic Stuffed MushroomsSucess!
Sweet potato & carrot soupSuccess!
Philly Beefless Steak KabobsSuccess!
Caramelized Onion TartsSuccess!

Main
Gardein Savory Stuffed Turk’y – um..it was..ok. Good vessel for mushroom gravy.
Roasted Eggplant with cornbread stuffingSuccess! So incredibly delicious and addictive!

Sides
Rosemary Roasted Potatoes – Didn’t end up making this. Too much starch on the table.
Sauteed seasonal greens

Dessert
Pumpkin pie – Mixed reviews. Sister and Parents loved it. I hated it. Made with stevia…I don’t like stevia.

This looks so amazing, Mary! I’m glad to find another blogger on the Canadian schedule as most of my bloggie friends aren’t thinking about Thanksgiving yet! This looks delish and there’s nothing I love more than stuffed mushrooms…mmm…

With Lucky Break Wishbones there is NO FOWL so NO FOUL. Perfect for the vegan Thanksgiving celebration.

But there are more plastics that aren’t necessary. I’d opt for a lucky branch instead!

I just discovered you via ‘the kind life’ on Alicia’s Thanksgiving menu… Like Anna said above, I am ecstatic to discover a blog of a fellow canadian! This past thanksgiving I wanted to change things up a bit, I wish I’d known about you last month! I have a recipe for a chocolate pumpkin pie in one of my cookbooks, (I think it’s ‘eat, drink & be vegan’?) and it uses maple syrup as the sweetner. I as well find stevia is great- but it leaves a strange taste, doesnt it… Anyways, looking forward to searching through your blog on this -20 Alberta day

Hello! I will be making your Best Vegan Fried Chicken recipe today. I’m at the step where I can now use the tofu. It looks so good. First snow fall of the year today and it has me thinking of Christmas. This will be my first vegan Christmas. I have never tasted any of the store prepared roast turkey substitutes. Have you ever tried to mimic the layers of the tofu (freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw method) for a homemade turkey style holiday main? (BTW – I don’t like mushrooms).
